Escape From Tomorrow

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 11, 2009, 7:29 AM
Awesome :w00t: I've just found out that my art/writing is featured on a Comic/Film review blog called: Escape From Tomorrow.

It's well exciting for me, as it is not everyday you get your name mentioned along with these guys: Ben Templesmith, Skottie Young, Mike Mayhew, David Yakayama and Stjepan Sejic. Some of which I follow myself here on DA and aspire to.

So a big thank you to Zaius the owner and writer of the fantastic blog, which is one I have been following for awhile now, so it was a big and welcome surprise this morning to be casually browsing to the blog for a catch up on all things comic and film and find my work featured there.

Official Announcements?

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 10, 2009, 9:45 AM
Official announcements, what are they then? It is almost like I'm important or something, secretly knowing that I'm not, well.... not yet anyway ;)

First announcement: My Blog is now live -:w00t: you can read and follow it here if you like - My Blog It is the best place to follow me and keep up with my art and writing as unlike my DA Journal I up-date it regularly, and unlike my Twitter and Facebook it's not a quick, random today i feel like....?

Second announcement: I've decided which book I'm working on next, if you can remember it was a tussle between a horror, Sci-Fi or Fantasy, well I've gone for the Fantasy option and have been working on it for a few weeks now. Some art to follow very soon in my DA gallery. The story is called, 'Between the Darkness and the Light' and for regular updates and news, just wack my blog into your Google Reader. (If your not using Google reader, why not?)

Third announcement: To preempt any questions about Google Reader, follow this link for more info - A Tour of Google Reader

Forth announcement: I've left the sad announcement for last, just to leave you on a bum note, I've decided due to a serious lack of anything from Overground comics to chuck in the towel on the project. It was born of a fantastic idea, and Yoda only knows what happened to it, it just seemed to fizzle and pop. So there you have it. That said, i'm still going to keep up with all the great guys involved with the project, i just wont be working on it anymore.

Fifth announcement: I don't think I have one? I just can't end on a sad note.... ...Oh, got one. I've changed my DA ID to the following -

I'm just hoping i don't get stung by the jobs-worth police of 'Art Theft' or something do the rounds on DA at the moment :D

Thanks for following and all the comments and :+fav:s and :+devwatch:s from everyone, I do get back to you all when I can. While I'm on the subject of thanks, thank you to everyone who has read my short book - Doctor Who and the Edge of Forever, it has now been read over a 1000 times and still has a five star rating.

You can read it here:

Many thanks to all who made it work :jedi:

Doctor Who - The Edge of Forever

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 7, 2009, 11:00 AM
Timey-Wimey, Wibbley-Wobbly… …Stuff?!

Short update this week, mainly as I’m plugging my now published Doctor Who illustrated short:

Doctor Who and the Edge of Forever

Which can be found and read here: [link]

This was a bit of a mad science experiment type thingy, and I think it has paid off as well as paved the way for more like it. I love the story and despite one or two not so great bits in the art, overall I’m very happy with the way they came out.

Paved the way you say, tell me more?

I’m glad you asked, yes I’m now torn between three one shots I’ve been planning now the crazy experiment has worked. A horror, a Fantasy and a Sci-Fi, I can’t quite make up my mind, plus I have a great idea for a full length Doctor Who story in the same format. Oh dear :( Over the next few days I’ll come to a decision of where to start as I’m going to hopefully publish all of them plus a ger-zillion other ideas too. In the mean time I’m going to focus on finishing my second piece for an attempt to try and land a 2000AD cover called, Death in the City a rendering of old stony face himself, Judge Dredd.

Facebook it is Then

The poll now over, and a bit of a surprise, and not that Facebook came tops, but that no one voted for MySpace? I remember the days when there wasn’t anything but MySpace, well sort of anyway. Twitter didn’t fare so well, let’s be honest, it is a bit pants, but it works for my needs. I think in reflection whatever works for you, and I guess that’s the point? It’s all great having these great tools for networking or whatever you use them for, my advice is to apply some sense. If you look at your Twitter for example and everyday at 9am your posting, ’Had a cup of coffee.’ and at 12noon your posting, ’Had a cheese roll. To finish your day with, ’Can’t wait to get home and watch Eastenders tonight.’ You have to question your motives, don’t you? Or maybe that is what it is all about and I missed the boat? Perhaps this world of networking is just about saying, ’Hay, here I am.’ And there is nothing wrong with that at all.

Enough rambles, thank you for looking and supporting, read my short story and let me know what you think :D

Nothing but work, work, work…

I want to believe…

40 Years Ago Did Man Land on the Moon?

63% of us on DA thought yes :w00t:

What can I say? I have seen the arguments for and against this and I’m pulled more towards the yes argument, and I’m quite a sceptical person too. However this one was all about what people believe and sometimes belief is much stronger than reality will ever be.

Neill Cameron, a Corking Artist

What a totally awesome artist (excuse the pun, if you have a look you’ll know what I mean ;) ) Check out his work at: [link]

Doctor Who?

You may or may not have noticed some sneak-e-peek art from an upcoming Doctor Who short I’ve been working on. It’s based on a short comic strip I wrote awhile ago that I felt the comic once published didn’t really do it justice. (You can find a copy in my gallery in the Doctor Who and the Edge of Forever folder - [link]). Any-who I needed something to experiment with for a formatting style for a future project, well I say future, I’m already working on it. This story fitted the bill and also gave me a chance to re-envision some of the story and show it in it’s entirety. So if you like Doctor Who and like to read, watch this space as it’s going to be published as an ebook by the end of next week, links etc to follow in my next journal.

Avatar - Not the Bald One!

Just one more thing before I go, I’ve been raving about this to everyone I know, so this includes you guys on DA too, check out this trailer: [link] it looks flippin’ fantastic :D

Enough flannel for now, thanks for looking, reading and supporting my work :)

I Want to Believe…..

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 7, 2009, 12:11 PM
:jedi:The Force is Strong in This One…:jedi:

I’m blown away by my Lightsaber poll, Red came out on top as a blade colour choice, my personal favourite is blue, ah, the classic, I still remember the speech the one and only Ben Kenobi gave Luke about the Clone Wars and his father and handed him the weapon now, great stuff. To my disappointment though, no one went for yellow! Which would have been my second choice :(

From the comments left it seems there is some really cool ideas out there for other blade colours, white , orange, gold, etc… I think if I had to go custom it would have to be:iconaingealdorcha: ‘s choice of plaid, as it is just bonkers ;)
:jedi:

:skull:Support Indi Films:zombie:

A good friend is an Indi film maker and has just posted his new short film, Hammer Falls, originally for a horror short competition, however time got away and the deadline was missed. Still like a true trooper he finished the job and posted it anyway here:
[link]
Give it a watch and spread the word to show your support to the indi film makers out there, who without we would be drowned in the Hollywood dross that flows onto our cinemas every year.
:D
(Check out the writing credit at the end too, hint-hint ;))

Moon Shot

Well it’s now been over 40 years since man landed on the moon, very controversial, did we? Didn’t we? Let me know, vote on my new poll, there is a reason I’m asking ;) Leave comments too whichever way you vote.

That’s it for this week, thanks for reading ;)
