I love Star Wars, so I just had to have ago at a Darth Vader image again. Ive got a few others of other various Star Wars characters Ill be uploading over the next few days. Creating this image really tested my Knowledge of reflection maps, but it was fun and I love the result. Much better than my shinny-shinny, Im so shinny Vader test render I did a while back now.
Wonderful job. I was curious as to if this was all done by hand in Photoshop or if it is a combination of some other programs like Poser. No matter how you did it, it is lovely.

Sorry about the late reply, my internet is up and down like a yo-yo at the moment!
Mainly use Photoshop, I create the textures, bump, reflection maps and that sort of thing, then use them in Poser, Bryce or Teragen to make the main parts of the image, then back into Photoshop to jam it altogether with photos I’ve taken to make the final images. So really I use a mish-mash of 2D, 3D art and photography. Sometimes it turns out okayish, other times amazing then mostly pants!
For every image in my gallery there must be three or four others in a folder on my computer that will never see the light of day!
I like to think I’m getting better each time though, I really like the images I’ve put together recently, so things are look up.

Just takes practice and a little guidance, if you have any questions or want any advice on anything, just drop me a note and I’ll see what I can do, a good magazine to read for advice on digital art is ImagineFX, here’s a link for the site:
Hope this helps a bit, best advice is just to keep trying and talking to others, I’ve seen the stuff you have in your gallery, it’s really good, just keep at it

Thank you for all the links! I really appreciate it. Sorry for the delay in responding, but I am in the middle of a home addition project and that is having me pulling out my hair.
I hope that in a few weeks things smooth out and I can get back to my drawing.
Thank you for taking a look in my gallery. I appreciate your kind words. I am self taught and have only been doing digital art for a couple years as a hobby.
I love it and I love looking on DeviantArt for inspiration. Everybody here is so nice and really encourages me to continue practicing.
Thanks!

Cool, no probs, my partners 5 months pregnant and we’re working on fixing the house up while trying to keep two fulltime careers going, so I can relate to letting the odd thing slide from time to time. (As you may guess from my own late response) And I like your work and you seem pretty ace, so I’ve now added you to the very exclusive list of my deviant friends so I can keep an eye on your progress, hope you don’t mind
